Transform, Unlock, Renew

Project TURN creates a learning environment in which incarcerated women and graduate students from Duke University can learn alongside one another as classmates. We believe that lives can be renewed by the transformation of our minds. Our classes balance academic training and personal spiritual development to offer a unique experience in which diverse students stretch their boundaries and enlarge their imaginations. We believe that learning is enhanced by exposure to experience and opinions radically different form our own. Our classes are held free of charge within local prisons to create a diverse student population in which ideas are discussed across a variety of social boundaries.

Project TURN is a partnership between Chaplaincy Services of The North Carolina Department of Corrections and students and faculty at Duke Divinity School. We currently hold classes at Raleigh Correctional Center for Women and are excited to be opening a program in a men’s facility in the coming year.

We would welcome your partnership in this exciting work of learning and growing across social divides. If you would like to learn more about how you can be involved, please contact Sarah Jobe, the director of Project TURN. We would also be grateful for any way you can support our work. Our classes are provided free of charge, and we provide books and materials for the incarcerated participants. Any donation would be of great help. Your tax-deductible donation can be mailed to:
